Overview
Kokernag, in Anantnag district, is famous for its springs — the largest freshwater spring in Kashmir, which bubbles up in several channels said to look like the claws of a rooster (‘koker’). The water feeds a landscaped botanical garden and one of the oldest trout farms in the region.
It makes a calm half-day stop, and the road continues beyond it to the Daksum forests and Sinthan Top.
